In the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Guidance Tamil Nadu on Thursday signed MoUs with Chubb, Nordex, the University of Western Australia and MotiveLink for projects in GCCs, R&D, higher education and manufacturing. Chennai: Wind turbine major Nordex and Zurich-based insurance company Chubb will set up India technology centres after signing agreements on Thursday in the presence of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.The Tamil Nadu government also exchanged an MoU with the University of Western Australia (UWA) to establish its India campus in Chennai, the first such international campus to be set up in Tamil Nadu under the UGC’s Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India Regulations, 2023.The 70,000-sq-ft campus will be set up in Velachery and will bring its globally recognised education across STEM, business and management. Professor Amit Chakma, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Australia, told TOI that it will offer eight undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with an inaugural intake target of 300 students. The campus will be built with an investment of about Rs 125 crore and is expected to commence operations in October 2026. UWA is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings.Nordex, which already has a GCC in Chennai, will set up its R&D centre here that will focus on engineering, research and development, supply chain management, and digital transformation, according to people aware of the development. It will employ about 1,000 people. Meanwhile, Switzerland-based property and casualty insurance company Chubb will set up its first global capability centre (GCC) in the state, with roles spanning advanced analytics and engineering. Chubb finalised Chennai because of its existing strengths in the BFSI GCC ecosystem and plans to further expand its workforce in the years ahead. Together, these two investments will generate a total of 1,220 jobs.Motivelink Co Ltd, a South Korean auto-components maker, also signed an MoU to set up a manufacturing facility at the Pillaipakkam Industrial Park. It is expected to invest Rs 300 crore through a combination of independent corporate investments and a joint venture. The investment follows the state Industries Minister S. Keerthana’s visit to South Korea.The total job potential of the MoUs signed is estimated at 2,920. “These investments are aligned with the Chief Minister’s vision of promoting innovation-led industrial growth and creating high-quality employment opportunities,” the government said in a release. They will fulfil the aspirations of Tamil Nadu’s youth and play a key role in establishing Tamil Nadu as a global hub for GCCs, R&D, higher education, and advanced manufacturing, it added.
