WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Wayne County Schools is delaying the start of classes for the 2026-27 school year until Tuesday, Aug. 25 for kindergarten through twelfth grade students.
The delay is due to ongoing construction at the Walker Early Learning Center, according to the district.
The first day of preschool will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, and preschool phase-in days are scheduled for September 2 and 3. The district said preschool teachers will reach out to parents to schedule phase-in times.
The Wayne County Board of Education will approve an amended school calendar during their regular monthly meeting on August 20, the district said.
School orientations will not be impacted and will continue as scheduled on the following days and times:
Tuesday, Aug. 4: Walker Early Learning Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bell Tuesday, Aug. 4: Wayne County Middle School (7th and 8th grade) from noon to 6 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 6: Monticello Elementary School from noon to 6 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 6: Wayne County Middle School (6th grade) from noon to 6 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 6: Wayne County High School from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
