Mumbai: Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has announced the discontinuation of distribution of select brands of Novartis India following a change in the comoany’s ownership.
In an intimation to the stock exchange, the company said it has “terminated the agreement” signed between the two companies for the distribution and promotion of select brands in India.
“This termination follows a change in the controlling shareholding of Novartis India. The Company will continue to commercialize the brands covered thereunder until September 30, 2026.
In February 2022, Dr Reddy’s inked an exclusive sales and distribution agreement with the Swiss pharma giant. The agreement covered Novartis’s off-patent birth control pill, Methergine (methylergonovine), anti-inflammatory drug, Voveran (diclofenac) and several other brands from its Calcium range.
Earlier this year, Novartis India parent, Novartis AG, divested its controlling stake to homegrown private equity firm ChrysCapital in a deal valued at nearly Rs 1,500 crore. ChrysCapital plans to bring in a new management team and has appointed former Alkem Laboratories CEO, Vikas Gupta to lead the business.
