MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) – Two Geneva County officers narrowly avoided serious injuries after a multi-vehicle wreck on a north Alabama interstate on Tuesday.
The pair of correctional officers were traveling through the area while enroute to pick up a prisoner in Madison County, according to the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office.
While moving along Interstate 565 just before 1 p.m., they encountered a sudden stop in traffic while attempting to take the exit heading towards downtown Huntsville, resulting in the ensuing crash.
The two officers, along with a third individual traveling in another vehicle, were hurt in the accident, but fortunately the injuries are believed to be minor. All three were taken to Huntsville Hospital for additional treatment, according to statements from the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office and Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HEMSI).
The prisoner that the officers were heading to the area to retrieve had not been picked up yet and is still being held in the Madison County Jail.
