HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WTVY) -A two-vehicle crash just inside the Florida border on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a 12-year-old Chicago girl and left four others injured, including two Alabama teenagers.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 81 and Holmes County Road 185, just south of the Geneva County, Alabama, line.
State troopers reported that a pickup truck traveling from Alabama ran a stop sign at the intersection, striking an SUV carrying the Chicago youth.
The 12-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Two adults riding in the SUV with her sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the pickup, a 16-year-old girl from Geneva, Alabama, was seriously injured. A second passenger in the truck, another 16-year-old girl from Bremen, Alabama, received minor injuries.
The names of those involved have not been released, in accordance with Florida state policy regarding crash victims.
