New Bern man wins $100k Powerball prize

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — A Craven County man won a $100,000 prize from a $3 ticket recently.

Robert Bascom-Cohane said that he couldn’t even speak when he checked his online lottery account. He had matched four balls and the Powerball during the drawing, winning him $100,000. Bascom-Cohane got his $3 ticket using Online Play in the August 5 drawing.

The odds of Bascom-Cohane’s win are 1 in 913,129.

“It was a total surprise,” said Bascom-Cohane. “All I could say was ‘Oh, my God, oh my God, oh my God,”

After state and federal tax withholdings, he brought $72,011 home. He said that he plans to use his winnings to pay bills, remodel a bathroom, install hardwood floors and visit family.
