NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – The Craven County Sheriff’s Office says it has identified the man who fled during an attempted traffic stop on Cannon Lane in New Bern Wednesday night.
The Criminal Patrol Bureau identified the driver as 47-year-old Roderick Miller of Williams Street in New Bern.
A sheriff’s office K-9 was deployed and located clothing Miller was wearing along with a bag he discarded that contained a handgun and illegal drugs, according to the sheriff’s office.
Miller had active warrants for failure to appear for two felony counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, felony fleeing to elude arrest, resisting a public officer and reckless driving at the time he fled on foot, the sheriff’s office said.
Additional charges are pending after the traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said.
Miller is a prior convicted felon who had a handgun and is considered dangerous given his prior charges. The sheriff’s office asked the public not to approach him.
The sheriff’s office says the mugshot with this story is from a previous booking and he now has dreadlocks.
