ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Former UGA star running back Nick Chubb announced his retirement from football in an Instagram post Friday.
The 30-year-old Cedartown native played at Georgia for four years between 2014 and 2017, succeeding Todd Gurley as the latest in a long line of successful running backs between the hedges. He posted 4,769 yards and 48 touchdowns at Georgia.
He missed most of the 2015 season after suffering a serious knee injury against Tennessee. He would return in 2016, but the knee would come back to haunt him.
Chubb went on to play parts of eight seasons in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans. He rushed for 7,349 yards across 100 games in the NFL and ended his Browns tenure as the third-leading rusher in franchise history.
In a Week 2 game in 2023, Chubb reinjured the same knee he injured in 2015, tearing his ACL and MCL. He returned in 2024 and 2025 but was never quite the same player.
“Health is the real wealth,” Chubb said in an Instagram post. “I end my career in a great place.”
