The Yeongnam Alps, an early autumn hiking spot, will be transformed into an outdoor theater.
Ulju-gun, Ulsan, announced on the 25th that it will hold the 11th Ulsan Ulju World Mountain Film Festival under the slogan of “Let’s Climb Together, Mountain of Film” at the Yeongnam Alps Complex Welcome Center for five days from September 18 to 22.
114 films on the theme of mountains, nature and the environment from 35 countries around the world will be screened. In the competition category, a total of 29 films, including 19 international competitions and 10 Asian competitions, compete for eight categories, including the grand prize, the best picture, and the best director.
The opening film “K2: Finding the Shadow” gives a spectacular view of nature by following a mountaineer who climbs K2, one of the most dangerous peaks, to anaerobic mountain. The closing film, “Still Sailing,” tells the beauty of the challenge with an adventure story of an elderly man who is 90 years away going back to the sea. Films made in Slovenia and Spain’s Basque region, which are difficult to access in Korea, will also be screened.
The biggest change in this year’s festival was the unification of the festival, which was held throughout Ulsan until last year, into a complex welcome center. Along with the existing complex welcome center, it operates a total of 11 outdoor theaters, including car camping theater, tent theater, and deck theater.
Talk concerts attended by mountain climbers representing Korea also attract attention. Ahn Chi-young, the world’s first leader to climb the Himalayan untested peak “T Peak” (6,220 meters above sea level) in May this year, vividly unravels the climbing process. Captain Kim Young-mi, who succeeded in crossing Antarctica alone for the first time in Korea, will hold a talk concert with the audience after the screening of the movie “Letters from Antarctica,” which records her crossing of Antarctica.
We also prepared a variety of experience and healing programs. It will also host “Hybrid Race” and “Night Running,” which combine rowing, skiergo, cycling, and running to compete for physical strength and cooperation. Healing programs include Singing Ball Healing Meditation, as well as Sound Walking, which uses hearing equipment to listen to the sounds of the forest. The director of the screening film “The Slackliner of the Collaboration” visits the festival in person and teaches know-how on the slack line (balancing the tightrope).
