A manhunt is under way in Switzerland after a shooting at a rave left one person dead and five others injured, with several victims reportedly suffering serious wounds.

The shooting was reported during the night in Schachen, near Aarau, the capital of the northern Swiss canton of Aargau. Local police said they received reports of nighttime gunfire and immediately launched a major operation in the area, Sky News reported.

Police urged the public to stay away from the scene as officers continued searching for the suspected attacker. A local horse racing track, swimming pool and sports field were among the areas cordoned off during the operation.

The motive for the shooting and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, according to Aargau cantonal police.

A 22-year-old woman was killed at the scene, police said. Five other people — four men and one woman aged between 24 and 27 — were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe.

All six victims are Swiss residents.

Authorities have not yet provided further details about the suspected perpetrator or said whether a weapon has been recovered. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue their search in the area.
