The -90 kg final featured an all-Uzbek showdown between Nurbek Murtozoev and Umar Bozorov, two judoka who produced an outstanding day of judo to guarantee their country gold. Murtozoev arrived in Lausanne as world number 20, having claimed Asian continental silver in 2025 and bronze at the Tashkent Grand Slam on home soil. A former -81 kg judoka and 2023 FISU World University Games silver medallist, he was contesting the first grand slam final of his career. Bozorov, ranked 23rd in the world before Lausanne, had already won the Tbilisi Grand Slam in 2025 and added a silver to his record at the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam later that year.
