Georgian judoka Eter Liparteliani has won the gold medal in the 57kg category at the Grand Slam tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland, held for the first time under the auspices of the International Judo Federation (IJF).

The reigning world and European champion defeated Turkmenistan’s Maysa Pardayeva in the first round, Finland’s Pihla Matikainen in the round of 16, and Italy’s Giulia Carnà in the quarterfinals.

Liparteliani then beat France’s Martha Fawaz in the semifinals before defeating another French judoka, Sarah-Léonie Cysique, in the final.

The victory marks Liparteliani’s third Grand Slam gold medal of her career.
