The Aarau rave shooting took place at around 2:30 AM on Sunday, August 30, during the Aarauer Rave at the city’s racecourse. According to Aargau Cantonal Police, a 22-year-old woman died at the scene. Notably, four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Meanwhile, police have launched a major investigation and are searching for one or more suspects. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and its motive remain unclear at the time of writing.
Beyond that, the tragedy has hit the wider dance community hard. As with recent incidents like the Ozora Festival tragedy, dancefloors should always be spaces of freedom, connection and safety, and news of the incident spread rapidly across the scene in the hours that followed.
Crucially, the Swiss authorities investigating the Aarau rave shooting have asked anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues. In turn, further updates are expected once the Aargau Cantonal Police release additional details. Follow ongoing coverage via BBC News.
