In St. John’s, the affected passenger will be turned over to medical care, Swiss said in response to an inquiry from the Keystone-SDA news agency. The Airbus A330 will then be refueled, and the flight, carrying 234 passengers, will continue to New York as quickly as possible.
The Swiss flight sent out a distress signal on Thursday evening shortly after 7:30 p.m. at an altitude of 11,000 meters, as the Tages-Anzeriger first reported online reported. The aircraft was given priority during landing. The subsequent descent and landing proceeded without any problems.
Not the first incident
This was not the first time an incident on a Swiss flight from Zurich to the U.S. had affected the flight path. In mid-August, a plane en route to Boston was forced to make an emergency landing in Dublin due to smoke developing on board, caused by a power bank.
An incident had already occurred on a Swiss flight to the U.S. at the end of July. A headphone charging case had caused smoke to develop on a flight from Zurich to New York. Due to the incident, the plane was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Bangor, Maine.
