NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Several parks across eastern Carolina are getting a boost in funding from the state.
Governor Josh Stein announced that $10 million in grants will go toward improvement projects at 25 parks across the state through the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund.
Spooner Creek Conservation Park in Morehead City, Martin Marietta Park in New Bern and Warsaw Memorial Park in Warsaw received $500,00 each.
Newport Community Park was awarded $390,000, and Farrior Park in Wallace received over $350,000.
Local communities apply for the grant to fund land acquisition, new recreation facilities or improvements to existing parks.
The state says PARTF has provided nearly $14 million in county and municipal grants this fiscal year, including $4 million awarded through the Helene Recovery Fund.
