Three people were hospitalized after a drunk driver slammed into another car, causing the vehicle to drive into a pond and leaving one person unconscious, in front of the Costco in Lake Zurich Saturday.
The Lake Zurich Police Department and Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded around 1:30 p.m. Saturday to the area of Costco, 680 South Rand Road in Lake Zurich, for a vehicle crash with injuries.

One vehicle drove off the roadway into a pond while the other remained on land.
Fire department radio traffic indicated one person was unconscious in a black Mercedes SUV.

Fire crews arrived and reported both vehicles had heavy damage.
Lake Zurich Deputy Police Colin Gaffney said a preliminary investigation showed a 2011 Mercedes, driven by Ennkbold Lkhamnorov, 55, of Glenview, was traveling westbound on the frontage road in front of Costco.

The Mercedes struck a 2020 Jeep, driven by a 29-year-old Waukegan woman, which was turning onto the frontage road from a parking aisle traffic lane.
The impact of the collision caused the Jeep to leave the roadway and come to rest partially submerged in a retention pond, Gaffney said.

A witness told Lake and McHenry County Scanner the driver of the Mercedes nearly hit another car just prior to the crash happening. She said her husband helped the woman out of the Jeep that was in the water.
Three ambulances were dispatched to the scene.

Gaffney said both drivers, along with an adult passenger in the Mercedes, were transported to local hospitals with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.
Lkhamnorov was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence and several other criminal and traffic offenses, including driving while license revoked.

Lkhamnorov was held at the Lake Zurich Police Department and transported to First Appearance Court on Sunday morning.
He was additionally wanted on two active warrants out of Cook County, Gaffney said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake Zurich Police Department.
