Mumbai: ChrysCapital-backed Novartis India has agreed to acquire Pfizer’s Minipress trademark, a high blood pressure therapy, for a total consideration of Rs 1,250 crore.
In a stock exchange filing, the company said it has executed an asset purchase agreement and trademark assignment deeds with Pfizer, with the signing and completion of the transaction slated to occur simultaneously.
As per IQVIA MAT July’26 data, Minipress recorded revenue of Rs 228.6 crores and has been growing at a CAGR of 6.3 per cent for past four years while the category has been growing at 9 per cent CAGR over the same period.
Minipress (prazosin hydrochloride) is an off-patent therapy primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and managing the urinary symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
The sale comes as the pharma giant grappled with multiple LOEs and declining sales of its COVID-19 vaccine in the US. Pfizer expects to return to growth “post 2028” through its recent dealmaking spree, including the acquisition of Metsera.
Meanwhile, Novartis India, which underwent an ownership transition from its parent, Novartis AG, to the homegrown PE investor, is looking to build a branded product portfolio under former Alkem CEO Vikas Gupta.
On Monday, Novartis India’s shares closed 0.5 per cent higher at Rs 1,642 apiece on the BSE. The stock has more than doubled so far this year.
