Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has indicated a willingness to hold further talks with the United States following a second round of high-level negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program.
The meeting was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday. Participants included Araghchi, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
The first round of talks took place earlier in February after a hiatus of about eight months.
After the meeting, Araghchi said there had been a constructive atmosphere and added, “we were able to reach a general agreement on a set of guiding principles, based on which we will proceed from now on and enter the text of a possible agreement.”
No date has been announced for the next round of negotiations. Araghchi suggested there is still a gap between the two sides that will take time to narrow.
Ahead of the talks, the US said it would send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, ramping up military pressure on Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps began exercises on Tuesday in the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions remain high, with Iranian media reporting that the key maritime route was temporarily closed.
