READING, Pa. – Berks County Commissioner Christian Leinbach says he’s been in touch with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to express his concerns about a possible ICE detention center in Upper Bern Township.

This morning, Leinbach said DHS committed to meeting with public officials. A date has not been set.

Earlier this month, ICE bought a warehouse on Mountain Road for more than $87 million dollars.

Local, county, state, and federal officials have since expressed concerns about the impact on everything from infrastructure to tax revenue.

Homeland Security tells 69 News it will have “very well-structured detention facilities,” and there will be community impact studies.
