For just the second time in the history of women’s curling at the Winter Olympics, the United States are semifinal-bound.

Yesterday, the four-person squad led by skip Tabatha Peterson found themselves in a win-or-go-home position in the final game of the round-robin phase. Ranked 17th in the world, the US women’s curling team needed a win against No. 2 ranked Switzerland to advance to the semifinals.

Tied 6-6 and playing into extra ends, Peterson delivered the final shot of game, which also happened to be the game-winning shot.

Now, it’s time for the semifinals — and a rematch. Team USA will face off against Switzerland again this morning with the same stakes, except this time, a loss means advancing to the bronze medal game.
