Geneva, OH – It was a championship atmosphere inside Geneva High School on Tuesday night, and the Eagles delivered a performance worthy of the moment. Behind a balanced offensive attack and a historic milestone from senior Caden Proy, Geneva defeated Lakeside 70-51 to secure the CVC Lake Division championship outright.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 11-6 overall and 8-1 in the CVC Lake Division. Lakeside falls to 9-10 overall and 6-4 in the division. Madison sits at 5-4, with each team having one divisional game remaining, but Geneva’s win locks up the title.
The opening quarter set the tone for a competitive battle. Lakeside’s Jerez Osborne came out aggressive, scoring early to keep the Dragons even with the Eagles. Geneva answered with interior production from Nate Csizar and perimeter scoring from Antonio Rivera, and the teams ended the first quarter tied at 16-16.
In the second quarter, Geneva began to create separation. Csizar continued to control the paint, while Proy found his rhythm offensively. The Eagles tightened up defensively, limiting second-chance opportunities and forcing tough shots from the Dragons. Geneva outscored Lakeside 19-13 in the frame to take a 35-29 lead into halftime.
The third quarter proved decisive in more ways than one. Geneva delivered its most complete stretch of basketball, outscoring Lakeside 20-13. Midway through the quarter, Proy attacked the basket and converted to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career, bringing the home crowd to its feet. The milestone added energy to an already strong run, as Rivera added timely buckets in transition and Csizar continued to finish inside. By the end of the quarter, the Eagles had stretched their lead to 55-42.
Geneva’s defense sealed the outcome in the fourth, holding the Dragons to just nine points while adding 15 of their own to close out the 70-51 victory.
Proy finished with 22 points on the night, marking a memorable performance that combined personal history with a team championship. Csizar added 21 points in a dominant interior effort, while Rivera chipped in 13. Bryce Peet scored six, Dylan Shaef had four, and Noah Hicks and C. Ellis each contributed two for the Eagles.
For Lakeside, Osborne led all Dragons with 20 points. JJ Murphy added 12, while Louis Flores scored eight. Drequan Bradley finished with seven, and Dominic Jackson, Jason Boles, and Nick Auxier rounded out the scoring.
