Two tractor-trailers rolled into New Bern on Thursday, carrying thousands of wreaths for this year’s Wreaths Across America ceremonies.
Volunteers and local law enforcement escorted in two semis loaded with wreaths destined for Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Bern National Cemetery, Evergreen, and Greenwood Cemeteries. At New Bern National Cemetery, crews spent the morning unloading and staging the wreaths in preparation for Saturday’s community-wide wreath-laying event.
Organizers say strong support from local groups, businesses, and charities helped make this possible, including the Wreaths Across America Chili Cook-off, which raised $4,100 to sponsor wreaths for Cedar Grove and New Bern National. One of the trucks carries about 7,000 wreaths, with additional deliveries heading to other locations throughout the day.
On Thursday, volunteers focused on placing family-sponsored wreaths—honoring veterans whose loved ones cannot attend Saturday’s ceremony. Wreaths Across America ceremonies will take place this Saturday as the community comes together to remember and honor local veterans.
