NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – A man is now behind bars after an overnight shooting in New Bern left one injured last month.
Jequell Stewart was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and resist/delay/obstruct a public officer.
Monday afternoon, police said they arrested 21-year-old Stewart, who was walking near Miller Street and had tried to run away.
Just before 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 19, New Bern police were called to a shooting at Trent Court.
Officers found a man who had been shot in the leg when they got to the area. He was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Care with non-life-threatening injuries.
Stewart is being held in the Craven County Jail without bond.
