Zurich Buys Beazley: $10.8B Deal Creates $15B Premium Specialty Insurer - News and Statistics

According to The Maritime Executive, the Swiss insurance group Zurich has agreed to purchase British insurer Beazley. The transaction is valued at 10.8 billion dollars, representing an increase over a previous proposal.

The acquisition will result in Beazley becoming a private entity. The merger is expected to form a combined specialty insurance operation with annual global premiums totaling 15 billion dollars. Beazley, which has operated for eight decades, provides coverage across numerous sectors including technology, aviation, manufacturing, real estate, finance, and energy. The firm participates in the Lloyds of London market for marine insurance, managing seven syndicates, and maintains subsidiary operations in the United States, Europe, and China.

Shareholders of Beazley are set to receive a 60 percent premium compared to the company’s share price from mid-January. The offer price also stands 35 percent above the stock’s historical peak. The combined entity will be based in London to utilize Beazley’s established position at Lloyds, and the Beazley board has endorsed the deal for shareholder consideration.

Zurich anticipates achieving annual cost synergies of approximately 150 million dollars following the merger and projects a double-digit return on investment in the medium term. The company’s chief executive stated the strategic move aims to build a leading platform to secure top underwriting talent, enhancing strength in cyber, energy, financial lines, and marine insurance. Completion of the deal is subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals, with closure anticipated in the latter half of 2026.
