The New Bern Police are investigating a homicide that occurred early Sunday morning.
The department responded to the area of Cramer Drive near Carmer Street following an alert from the department’s ShotSpotter System at 1:31 am, Sunday morning. Once on scene, police located a 31-year-old man, later identified as Lamark Simmons, suffering from a gunshot wound. Simmons was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police at this time have not publicly identified the shooter, but have made an arrest of an individual accused of being an Accessory After the Fact.
According to court documents, police allege that 26-year-old Yashur Dyer of New Bern assisted the unknown shooter in escaping after the incidents.
According to court filings, Dyer, police allege that Dyer, having known the murder just took place, drove the unknown suspect away from the scene in order to help him escape detection and arrest.
New Bern Police have taken Dyer into custody, and he is currently being held without bond at the Craven County Jail.
New Bern Police have not released any further details on the unknown shooter or any other details on how Dyer was taken into custody.
