An international conference titled “Combating the Indian government’s transnational repression: Sikh resistance and the UN” was held in Geneva within the framework of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and the Sikh Federation, Baku Initiative Group (BIG) told APA.
According to information provided by BIG, the conference was significant in terms of bringing the issues faced by the Sikh community to the international stage, particularly on the UN platform.
Representatives of the Sikh diaspora from various countries, human rights defenders, and individuals affected by the persecution policies of the Indian government participated in the event.
Speakers addressed the growing transnational pressure and threats against Sikh activists and diaspora representatives, calling on the international community to take the issue more seriously. During the conference, an agreement was reached to continue documenting such cases and raising them on the agendas of international organizations.
