The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and the Sikh Federation presented a report titled “Indian Transnational Repression” at the Geneva Press Club, reflecting transnational persecution carried out by the Indian government against the Sikh community and other ethnic groups, BIG told APA.

The event was attended by the leadership of the Geneva Press Club, international law experts, human rights defenders, and representatives of leading media organizations such as the BBC and AFP.

The 58-page report notes that the Indian authorities use violence, surveillance, intimidation, and other pressure mechanisms against Sikh activists and diaspora representatives living abroad.

The document cites as examples the killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, charges in the United States related to a plot to assassinate Sikh activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, and the increasing pressure against Sikh dissidents in the United Kingdom.

Participants of the event expressed their gratitude to the Baku Initiative Group for its role in exposing India’s policy of transnational repression.

According to the information, during the live broadcast of the event, the stream was interrupted several times due to cyberattacks and internet connectivity problems occurred at the venue.
