It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Shirley Ann (Conner) Hostyn at the age of 81.
Shirley was born in Tampa, Fla., and raised in New Bern, N.C.
Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Laurent (Larry) Hostyn; and her parents, Juanita (nee Chance) and William Conner.
She is survived by her adoring children, William Patrick Hostyn (Sunga), Rose Marie Miller (Mike), and Juanita Aurelia Huryn (Andrij); grandchildren, Patricia Ann (Joseph), Kyle Suhrie (partner Lylybell), M.J. Miller, Anna Aurelia (Gabe), Henri Bohdan and Isa Lauren; great-grandchildren, Luka Joseph and Lyla Rae; her loving sisters, Laura Colombo and Rosa Nihoa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friend, Rosewitha Cook.
Shirley traveled the world but always called New Bern home. As a young girl, she lived with her parents and sisters in Casablanca, Morocco and Tehran, Iran. She met and married the love of her life in Tehran. Together, they raised their three children in Canada living in the provinces of Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, Labrador and Newfoundland. Later in life, she returned to the Middle East with her husband, Larry, as he worked in Saudi Arabia for many years. After her many adventures, she and Larry settled back in New Bern.
Shirley was truly a beautiful, gentle woman. She was a devoted wife of 61 years, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was always there to care for others. Her love and devotion to family was unequaled and will live on forever as a guiding light for all of us. Our family would like to thank everyone for all the beautiful thoughts and prayers with a special heartfelt thank you to her caretakers Becca, Virginia, her nurse Mary Ann and team from 3HC Hospice.
The family will be having a private graveside service.
