  • 2026-02-13

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – New Bern residents may see smoke in areas as the city will begin controlled burning for the North Carolina Department of Transportation Highway 43 Connector Project.

New Bern has issued a burn permit for ground clearing as part of the NCDOT Highway 43 Connector Project, which extends between Highways 17/70 & Business 17.

Officials say contractual burning will occur from Monday to January 23rd, weather permitting, and residents should be aware of smoke in the area, especially west of Greenbrier & north of Craeberne Forest.

Contract crews will be on site during active burn hours.

For questions or more information about this project, residents can call NCDOT Resident Engineer Stanley Harrell at (252)775-6530.
