George Beck confirmed his retention in an email to WTVY.
A judge ordered Powell to turn in her keys and barred her from the clerk’s office while state agents probe missing funds.
“Presiding Judge (William) Filmore decided it was prudent for Mrs. Powell to be away from the office on paid leave while we work with the Attorney General’s office to resolve any discrepancies in the county clerk’s accounts,” Beck said.
