The Geneva softball team broke things open with a three-run third inning and leaned on a steady performance in the circle to knock off Madison, 5-2, on Friday.

The Eagles piled up 12 hits and got a complete-game effort from freshman pitcher Morgan Hunt to secure the win.

Madison struck first, getting on the board in the opening inning when Paige Higgins scored, giving the Blue Streaks an early 1-0 lead. But Geneva answered in a big way in the third, sending three runs across to take control.

Claire Cafaro delivered a key extra-base hit, finishing with a triple, two RBIs, and a run scored, while Caidyn Siegel drove in two runs to pace the middle of the order. Kailyn Cerjan added two hits, including a double, and scored twice as the Eagles’ lineup consistently applied pressure.

Geneva extended the lead with single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Ella Walker tripled and drove in a run, and Addie Sheppard added a double as part of the Eagles’ 12-hit attack.

Madison managed to push across another run in the sixth, with Ally Negin scoring and Addison Wargula picking up an RBI, but the Blue Streaks couldn’t overcome Geneva’s third-inning surge.

Hunt handled the rest in the circle, going all seven innings while allowing just five hits and two runs — neither earned — while striking out seven.

On the other side, Higgins battled through a complete game for Madison, striking out eight over seven innings.
