Canada gets set for the second half of a back-to-back on Friday, as they take on Switzerland in more Group A action at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

While hockey has been a staple at the Winter Games since its inception over 100 years ago, this will be just the sixth time NHLers will compete in the tournament, and the first since 2014. With the mix of top-tier talent and European regulars, there is a lot of excitement heading into this year’s tournament.

The Canadians faced Czechia in a tough test on their first day of the tournament on Thursday, but looked dominant in a 5-0 win.

Canada entered Italy as one of the pre-emptive favorites to win the gold medal. The team is stacked with future Hall of Famers – Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon – as well as a core of talented players to were pivotal in helping Canada win the 4 Nations Face-Off last February.

Canada has won a record nine gold medals at the Winter Games, though it has been since 2014 since the nation has stood atop the men’s hockey podium.

They face off with a Swiss team that looked confident in a 4-0 win over France on Thursday, giving hope that they can possibly grab a bye to the quarterfinals.
