Construction is now underway on new infrastructure space for general aviation at Zurich Airport.

Work has begun on the build of a new 100 million CHF general aviation terminal, which will include a hangar and its own apron area, replacing existing infrastructure in the eastern part of the airport.

Zurich Airport has stated that recent years have shown the airport can no longer meet demand for suitable hangar space, with existing on-site infrastructure having reached the end of its lifecycle.

Construction will also include a new replacement for planned taxiway routing around Runway 28, which would affect the current general aviation facilities if left unchanged.

All new infrastructure in Zone West will be designed to meet the current needs of general aviation service providers, and will seek to offer hangar space for larger aircraft types, as well as an additional building for passenger processing and office facilities whilst providing shorter transfer times due to its proximity to the existing heliport.

With construction having begun on 14 April 2026; current plans are for the building to be accessible via an extension of Rohrstrasse. Once complete, the new infrastructure is expected to become operational in spring 2028.
