Driver who lost wife, daughter in crash faces murder charges

  • 2026-04-22

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) – The driver accused of causing a crash that killed his wife and young daughter is now facing reckless murder charges following his arrest, authorities said.

Wesley Ty Cobb was served with two Geneva County grand jury indictments and booked into the Geneva County Jail on Monday night on $200,000 bond, the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Court records show a judge dismissed two counts of criminally negligent homicide tied to the July 2024 crash at prosecutors’ request. Cobb could not face those charges and reckless murder charges stemming from the same incident.

The head-on collision killed Cobb’s wife, Tiffany Cobb, 26, and the couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Rylan.

Alabama State Troopers alleged in a post-crash report that Cobb drank alcohol and used drugs before the wreck, but the report did not allege intoxication.

The crash happened on Alabama Highway 167, south of Hartford, and also injured a 16-year-old boy in the other vehicle.
