FARMINGTON — The man accused of killing Emmanuel Richelieu at a Geneva motel has been indicted, Ontario County District Attorney Jason MacBride said.
Julius Ware IV, 29, was charged April 19 by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office with second-degree murder. He is accused of stabbing Richelieu, 37, of Farmington, with an unspecified weapon multiple times.
Ware had been scheduled to appear for a hearing in Geneva Town Court Friday, April 24, but the appearance was canceled when an Ontario County grand jury indicted him, MacBride said.
More details will be available when the indictment is filed, MacBride said, adding that could happen later this week.
Richelieu, 37, was found dead April 18 in a room at America’s Best Value after being reported missing a day earlier. Ware was arrested the next day after initially being called a “person of interest” in the case. Richelieu was found in a room at the Geneva motel that was registered to Ware, who was placed there by state parole. Ware was released from prison April 9 after serving an eight-year sentence for an armed robbery in Geneva in 2018.
Donations sought
Additionally, an online fundraiser has been created for Richelieu. The family is asking for donations to help take his body back to Florida, where he lived before moving to Ontario County with a brother.
The GoFundMe page was created by a sister of Richelieu, Janet Richelieu Senatus.
“My family is heartbroken,” Senatus wrote. “We recently lost my brother in a tragic and senseless act of violence. He was taken from us far too soon, and we are still trying to process this unimaginable loss. My brother was kind, loving, and the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He always had a smile on his face and brought joy to everyone around him. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and community.”
She said their biggest priority is bringing him home to Florida, “where his family and loved ones are, so we can lay him to rest properly. Unfortunately, the costs associated with transporting his body, funeral arrangements, and related expenses are overwhelming during this already devastating time.”
She said “no amount is too small, and every bit of support means the world to our family” to “help us bring my brother home and give him the farewell he deserves.”
