  • 2026-04-29

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – A New Bern man is receiving treatment after a shooting last night.

18-year-old Khalil Grant of New Bern was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center after first responders arrived at the scene, according to police.

Around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, New Bern police say they got a ShotSpotter alert about gunfire near Queen Anne Lane.

Officers responded and recovered several shell casings, but no victims were found at the scene.

Two minutes later, at 11:17 p.m., a 911 call reported a shooting near McKinley Avenue and Charles Street.

There, police found Grant suffering from a gunshot wound.

Detectives are investigating a possible connection between the two incidents.

They believe the McKinley Avenue shooting was a targeted attack and are actively seeking additional evidence and witness accounts.

New Bern police encourage the public to become a “Partner in Policing” by reporting suspected illegal activity to the New Bern Police Department at (252) 633-2020 or the TIPS line at (252) 636-5034.
