With a clear goal of not creating a “fake old style”, Haddou and Dufourcq started by completely rethinking the layout of the home. Originally, the chalet only had two bedrooms, with a main suite that occupied the entire top floor, and poorly designed living spaces—including a tiny living room and a kitchen that was on a different level to the dining room. “Meals had to be sent up via a dumbwaiter!” laughs Dufourcq. “Nothing was practical or cohesive.” Their brief included three ensuites, a spa area, a large kitchen, and of course, a living and dining area. “The biggest challenge was completely rethinking the layout, the spatial organisation, and the circulation: meeting the brief and creating coherent spaces with a sense of harmony,” says Haddou.
