A new $220-million investment is slated for the Morrisville area.
Novartis Pharmaceuticals is planning an expansion with a new building at its Research Triangle Park campus.
The new facility’s primary purpose will be the manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients for solid dosage tablets, capsules, and RNA therapeutics.
The company says it’s part of the goal to bringing more pharmaceutical manufacturing to the U.S. from overseas.
“We’re excited about this expansion, which highlights Wake County’s continued excellence in the life sciences sector,” Chair Don Mial of the Wake County Board of Commissioners said.
“Companies like Novartis know that we have the skilled workforce they need to fill their new positions with talented, dedicated professionals who will take their business to the next level,” he said.
The building will be at Pathway Triangle. It’s comes alongside a recent $771 million announcement made by the company into Durham and Wake County in November. The company said it expects the investments to create more than 700 jobs in RTP over the next 5 years.
“North Carolina continues to lead in advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing, and Novartis’ expansion in the Triangle reflects our state’s talent and innovative spirit,” Gov. Josh Stein said recently. “This investment will strengthen our state’s economy and ensure life-saving medicines continue to be made right in North Carolina.”
The Research Triangle region hosts over 650 life sciences companies, employing over 45,000 people.
