Demonstration Alert:  Demonstration in Bern on January 20 – U.S. Embassy Bern, Switzerland – January 20, 2026 

Location: Bern, Switzerland

Event:  A demonstration is expected in Bern in close proximity to the U.S. embassy on Tuesday, January 20, starting at 19:00.  This demonstration has not been authorized by Swiss authorities.

A large police presence is planned in response and police will begin erecting barriers at 18:00.  Sulgeneckstrasse between Kleine Schanze and Florapark will be closed to vehicle traffic.

The U.S. Embassy has advised its personnel to avoid Sulgeneckstrasse around the embassy beginning at 18:00, until news reports the demonstrations have subsided.

Be aware of your surroundings.
If you find yourself in the vicinity of a large gathering or protest, exercise caution and leave the area immediately.
Monitor local media for updates.
Notify friends and family of your safety.
