Senior ace Anna Champey etched her name into New Bern High School softball history Friday night, when she recorded her 500th career strikeout during a playoff victory over Lumberton.
Champey, who has dominated the circle for four varsity seasons, now sits at 508 career strikeouts with 210 of those coming in her Senior year. She has compiled an impressive 38-6 record with a 1.48 ERA over her high school career.
This senior year has been one of her strongest yet. She has been a dual threat, batting over .500 while leading the pitching staff. Her career batting line stands at a robust .461 average with power numbers that include 29 doubles, 11 triples, and 5 home runs.
Next Chapter: University of Maine
Champey signed her National Letter of Intent with the University of Maine. She will continue her career as a pitcher and middle infielder for the Black Bears. She is ranked among the top pitchers in North Carolina and the Southeast for the Class of 2026.
Champey will be back on the mound Tuesday night as the Lady Bears take on South Central in the third round of the NCHSAA 7A Playoffs.
