Swiss Re has promoted Trent Thomson as Head Global Specialty and successor to Anne Lohbeck, effective 1 July 2026, the reinsurer announced on Tuesday.
Thomson, who is currently CEO Australia & New Zealand, will be based in London for the new role. He has been with the business for 22 years, starting as a casualty underwriter. Since then, he has led regional teams and managed key global clients in APAC and the US.
Prior to joining Swiss Re, Thomson also worked in casualty and liability underwriting roles at Munich Re, AIG and RSA.
“Trent Thomson brings the combination of deep underwriting expertise and client understanding built over a career of 28 years that is required to lead our specialty business forward through increasingly complex risks,” said Gianfranco Lot, chief underwriting officer, P&C Re. “We are pleased to have been able to appoint an internal leader, which reflects the depth of our talent at Swiss Re.”
Thomson’s appointment adds to a series of recent leadership changes across Swiss Re’s global and regional businesses. Earlier this month, the reinsurer appointed Dean Galligan to the newly created Head of L&H Transactions role.
Within Asia Pacific, the reinsurer has recently named Anna Ziswiler as head of P&C Reinsurance for Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. Devpriya Misra was also appointed to lead its newly established Credit and Surety hub for APAC, the Middle East and Africa, last month.
