Dentists everywhere are devastated. Who will pay for their new boats now?
It was a dark day back in 2023 when Allen’s announced it was discontinuing Fantales – everyone’s favourite choc-coated chewy caramel that we all still hold such fond memories of. Probably because we all still have a bit of one stuck in our back molar.
So when a rumour started circulating that Fantales were returning, Aussie lolly fans were all in a tizzy. It certainly made sense – nostalgia is big business in the food space at the moment. In the past year, we’ve seen the return of Killer Pythons, Bounty and Crispy Potato In A Biskit, while classic Clinkers recently enjoyed 15 minutes of fame on TikTok, and old-school bakes are now some of the hottest items at bakeries across the country.

The rumour – which was doing the rounds on a Reddit thread – was linked back to food content creator Russ Eats, who spruiks new and returning food items on his social media platforms. But sadly, it appears that it was just that – a rumour, and nothing more.
Speaking to 9Honey, Nestlé (which owns Allen’s), said they were not bringing back our beloved Fantales, crushing our dreams just like a Fantale pulverises a dodgy dental filling.
“We stopped making Fantales back in 2023 due to declining sales and the significant investment needed to continue to make them,” a Nestlé spokesperson told 9Honey. “We don’t have any plans to bring them back.”
So that’s that then. It’s time to dry our eyes, accept our Fantale-less future and go and passive-aggressively eat a whole bag of Minties in protest.
