The Geneva Fire Department and several mutual aid agencies will conduct firefighter training exercises Saturday morning near the hospital landing zone in the City of Geneva.
The training will begin with an educational presentation from Mercy Flight Central, followed by hands-on training exercises. Two interactive stations will be set up:
Aircraft Operations and Rescue: Mercy Flight Central will bring an actual aircraft to demonstrate proper shutdown procedures and techniques for safely removing an unconscious or injured pilot or crew member.
Aircraft Fire Suppression Training: The Air National Guard will provide a specialized firefighting training prop—a helicopter fuselage fueled by propane—to simulate a live fire scenario. Firefighters will practice proper extinguishing methods used in aircraft emergencies and crash situations.
Fire officials emphasized that the activity is part of a scheduled training drill and that there is no emergency.
For safety reasons, the training area will be closed to the public. Officials are asking people to avoid the immediate area and follow directions from emergency personnel on scene.
The department thanked the public for its cooperation and support as firefighters continue training and preparing to respond to emergencies in the community.
