Two people have died following a helicopter crash in Mt Aspiring National Park today.

Emergency services received reports of the incident about 9.50am, police said.

Maritime NZ’s Rescue Coordination Centre has handed responsibility for the response to police, who are on scene now.

The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed
it was aware of the reported helicopter accident on Sunday morning.

“At this stage, we are making initial enquiries to understand the circumstances and are liaising with other agencies involved,” a CAA spokesperson said.
