NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – The first phase to improve a busy intersection in New Bern gets underway today.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation says work is beginning around Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard (US 70 Business and US 17) at Hotel Drive today.
The first phase requires crews to close the left lanes in both directions of Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd so they can widen the left turn lanes onto Hotel Dr.
Officials say the work will take about two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
The left lanes will reopen once work is done, but other closures will be coming throughout the summer.
Other improvements will include drainage, pacing, and signal and pedestrian accommodations.
Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zones and find alternative routes to avoid delays.
