Former Georgia Bulldogs running back Nick Chubb remains an NFL free agent just several weeks before NFL training camp begins. Chubb played the 2025 NFL season with the Houston Texans after spending the first seven years of his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns.

Chubb posted 122 carries, 506 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in 15 games last season. He helped the Texans make the playoffs, where Houston lost to the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At this point in his career, Chubb is primarily a short yardage power back. Chubb is not the best option in the passing game, but he offers a steady, reliable presence.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen thinks Chubb’s best fit would be with the Dallas Cowboys. Behind starter Javonte Williams, Jaydon Blue (passing game specialist) and Malik Davis are the Cowboy’s top options at running back. Chubb could certainly beat out Davis for a roster post.

“A veteran grinder at this point of his career, Chubb could provide value as the Cowboys’ No. 2 or No. 3 option behind starter Javonte Williams,” Matt Bowen of ESPN wrote about Chubb.

Chubb still has some upside. He suffered a serious knee injury in 2023 and appears to have gotten some of his juice back following that injury. Another offseason should help Chubb, 30, comeback strong in 2026.

The NFL veteran could also wait for when a team needs running back depth after an injury in training camp, during the preseason or in the regular season.
