NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – Voters across New Bern went to the polls today to elect local leaders.
Municipal elections closed at 7:30 p.m. today.
Residents voted for the next mayor, and all six of the city’s alderman seats are on the ballot.
New Bern residents also voted on a city bond referendum for proposed city upgrades.
Early voting was available at the Stanley White Recreation Center ahead of Election Day, which wrapped up on Saturday.
One race many are watching is the alderman seat for Ward 6, which has been vacant since July 2024. That’s when Alderman Bob Brinson resigned to take a state Senate seat.
Moves to appoint a new alderman ended in a 3-3 deadlocks, so aldermen decided to leave the seat vacant until the election.
