The USCG Auxiliary in New Bern will be conducting a Boat America basic boating safety course on Sunday 31 May 2026 at the Riverdale UMC at 5195 US-70E from 0900 to 1700. Persons born in 1988 or later must complete an approved boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater.

You’ll learn the required knowledge to operate a boat. Topics include: Before getting underway • Navigating the waterways • Operating your vessel safely • Legal requirements of boating • Handling boating emergencies. Additionally, many insurance companies offer discounts on boat insurance for completing this course! This course includes a book and, upon completion, you will receive both a certificate and wallet card for proof of completion. Cost for this course is $30, but if you are sharing a book with another, the second person is $10 which covers cost of administration.

These courses are taught by qualified instructors who are volunteers in the USCG Auxiliary. Your support is critical in keeping our waterways safe and making it possible for us to support the general education of our boaters.
