Switzerland confirmed that Kevin Fiala will miss the rest of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 after suffering a lower-leg injury against Team Canada.
The injury happened late in the third period when he got tangled up along the boards with Tom Wilson. Medical tests confirmed he cannot continue in the tournament.

Fiala recorded one assist in two Olympic games before being ruled out. Switzerland released the update soon after the loss in Milan.
“Kevin Fiala was injured in the second group game against Canada and will miss the rest of the Olympic tournament,” the team wrote.
Head coach Patrick Fischer said Fiala went to the hospital after leaving the ice on a stretcher.
“We haven’t seen him yet. I think he went to the hospital. Obviously, it doesn’t look very good. Tough, tough, tough moment for Kevin and the whole team, obviously,” Fischer said.

Switzerland must now adjust its forward lines for the remaining games. The team will rely on other players to handle extra ice time and power-play duties.
Fiala plays in the NHL for the Los Angeles Kings and has produced 18 goals in 56 games this season. He remains one of Switzerland’s most important offensive players, which makes his absence significant for the lineup.
The forward previously dealt with a major leg injury in 2017 during the Stanley Cup playoffs. His current recovery timeline after the Olympics remains unclear, and further evaluations will guide next steps.

Kevin Fiala of Switzerland is taken off the ice by medical staff on a stretcher after sustaining an injury against Canada in men’s ice hockey group.
Canada controlled most of the game behind strong performances from Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid, and Macklin Celebrini. Their scoring depth created challenges for Switzerland throughout the matchup, and they won the game 5-1.
Switzerland now focuses on regrouping and maintaining its chances in the tournament. They have won one game against France with a 4-0 score, and will look to rebound against Czechia on Sunday.
The team will aim stay competitive while managing lineup changes caused by Fiala’s injury.
