Former Swiss F1 four-time champion Alain Prost was injured when a group of robbers broke into his home in Nyon, Switzerland, on Tuesday morning, as first reported by the German paper Blick last evening.

Prost and his family were at home at the time of the break-in, and Prost sustained a head injury. Under the threat of further violence, one of Prost’s sons opened the safe for the group of attackers.

It’s believed that the break-in was not an isolated incident, with a gang of robbers carrying out similar break-ins throughout the Lake Genova region and across international borders. With this, the French police have also been brought in.

While it has not yet been reported what was taken, it’s speculated that high-end wristwatches may be involved, given the nature of the international thieves and Prost’s relationship with the watchmaker Richard Mille.

Prost became an F1 world champion for the first time in 1985, following it up in 1986, 1989, and 1993, the first three with McLaren and the final with Williams.

Prost has since returned to his home in Dubai, where he lives part of the year as he recovers from the attack.
